Yes there are mortgages, but all the drummers mentioned earlier own their own homes in numerous places. Vinnie has a mini estate in Tuscany. Did anyone know that? Kenny has pads in NYC, Indiana and LA.
And like someone else said, being a millionaire isn't being rich in this day and age. It's having a lot of money.
I don't think anyone here is talking CEO rich.
I for one found this topic very interesting. Great job guys. For some of us drumming/music is purely a hobby and for some of us it is how we make our living. I think talking about drummers salaries is very relevant; it's nice to know a rough figure of how much $$$ our heros make. Not saying I'm going to start charging a salary equal to Vinnie's any time soon though, [img]wink.gif[/img]
i would actually love to get real figures anduff like that, but it is a bit of a dodgy topic as people dont want to reveal what they know due to respect and privacy of the artist which is understandable, but it would be an amazing source of information for the business side of playing drums and being a musician if a recognised drummmer actually wrote about on the topic using actual figures from his experiences etc...i would definetely support that
Real figures are pretty simple to figure out. The top studio guys can get triple scale for a high profile session. Double is "normal" and then there are negotiated rates for longer sessions. This is not for live touring, but for recording.

... In fact, it is really more relevant than talking about a paradiddle, metric mods, or anything like that.
For me, personally, i care more about learning those aspects and those little details concerning an actual living, i.e. the business aspect, than i do about the newest Vinnie lick... the newest Vinnie lick ain't gonna get me as many gigs as knowing how to be savvy is.

Maybe I shouldn't have brought this topic up again . I am both bored and broke.
I don't know if Carter Beauford qualify as the legendary drummer but I just saw an interesting show on MTV about how much money big artists and bands make. It reminded me of this topic. They said in the show that Dave Matthews Band made over 30 million bucks in 2002 (?) and that they're known of sharing the money equally between the members. They have been big for years.
I know being in a popular band is different than being a freelance drummer but still...

The pop/rock drummers are really the guys that have it made. Think about it.
Oh and Dave Matthews band... EACH MEMBER has their OWN personal tour bus. That's 6 buses for the band, and god knows how many for the whole crew. They are LOADED, and they deserve to be - they have worked HARD and made some great music.
Which reminds me... as much as i would lash out at all my drummer friends everytime they would try and tell me Carter rules the world of drumming, and every time i would try and open their eyes to other drummers that are out there, this still remains:
I saw a new DMB video on tv last night and i was like, "Oh yeah... that's right, i DO like this band a hell of a lot and Carter does indeed kick ass".
Just nice to be reminded. You know, sometimes i get so 'drummeristic' that i always have to one-up the great popular drummers with a "yeah, but Vinnie" or something like that. Lest i forget that i, yeah, i do like Carter's playing... it is nice to be able to turn on the tv at 2 in the morning and hear someone playing like that, knowing who it is before i see the band. Plus, yeah, i like the music.
